Verdict - Surprise of the month for sure and probably the best comedy this year !

I had almost decided not to watch Pataakha and now I am glad that I did. Maybe as an audience we need to be careful that the Bollywood publicity machinery does not black out such films from our radar. This movie is not just the surprise of September but it is also the best comedy to have come out of Bollywood stable this year. At least as good as stree.
The movie has at its center the sibling rivalry of two sisters Badki and Chutki who are constantly at loggerheads. Then as fate will have it they end up in the same family as daughter-in-laws. They devise a plan to divide the family and live separately but are they eventually happy without each other is what the climax is all about.
The movie is completely driven by comedy and vague hints of satire like Modi and Trump hugging each other in a frame. The comedy is kept earthy and rustic and is delivered with good creative brilliance. To the credit of Vishal Bharadwaj he has kept the proceedings in control and nowhere has he led the urge of high end creativity make the movie heavy and dragging.
The character chemistry like the one between the father (played with such sharpness by Vijay Raaz) and the daughters , the daughters and their lovers and then the moments between Dipper and everyone else. There are so many intra character moments that you will take back with you after this movie. David Dhawan would be proud of this movie. Trust me.
The movie has a subtle message of peace and coexistence and thankfully the director does not let it become a heavy duty lecture which kills a movie.
The music is peppy and adds to the aura of the movie and dain patakha bain patakha has Gulzar in his now famous elements. That one song adds to the flavor and mood of the movie.
Go watch this one because with this the Vishal Bharadwaj that we knew is back and how !
