Verdict - This Stree will entertain you well and you might be still laughing while walking out of the theater !
Stree is a horror comedy which has a very sharp comedy content. Right from the word go jokes and situations of comedy are thrown at you with such speed by Amar Kaushik that the horror element which is decent enough gets completely over shadowed.
The plot of the movie is simple about a vengeful woman’s spirit trying to settle scores with the men of a small town Chanderi. A group of four men and one woman finally rid the town of the ghost. With a super twist in the end.
The movie as written above has its entertainment value totally in its comedy moments. Right from a father urging his son to become a “swayamsevi” to the moments where Dana becomes possessed by a spirit the scenes will keep you in splits. The sharp sarcastic humour is well placed with lines like “aaj Amol Palekar Baahubali bana hua hai”.
The movie keeps you hooked for most part of its reasonably long run time and that is not a mean ask. In fact the horror part is more or less predictable but the director has kept it in reasonable balance.
The movie also has some well written emotional scenes to which are kept under tight leash by the director particularly the one where Rajukmar Rao discovers the truth about his roots.
Shraddha Kapoor is good in her performance and Rajkumar Rao as usual is worth your ticket money but it is the other characters in this movie which bring such flair to the plot. Particularly Pankaj Tripathi as Rudra Bhayya is brilliant and the friend duo played by Abhishek Bannerjee and AparShakti Khurana keep you totally in the plot of the movie.
You might have suffered too many badly done horror movies by Bollywood but this one more than makes up for some sorry horror mistakes of Bollywood.
This one is a very good weekend watch. My rating three stars.
