    Verdict - Tedious and pointless

Teri Meri KahaaniWatch trailerRelease date : June 22, 2012

Teri Meri Kahani for most part plays out as a school college skit of ten minutes stretched to fill a two odd hour time period. Diretor Kunal Kohli's romantic saga starring Priyanka and Shahid is soulless, artificial and unbearably long.

Set in three eras, the story follows three pairs of star crossed lovers, Shahid and Priyanka, who meet each other by accident, literally, and fall in love only to be separated so they can end up together in style. Relying heavily on eternal love at first sight and generously populated with cringe worthy pseudo philosophical dialogues, the story is embarrassingly juvenile in its content and approach.

The film begins in CGI enabled 60's Bombay in a very Chaplinisque fashion that amuses for the first fifteen odd minutes and starts grating on the nerves soon after. The story jumps to modern day yuppy college love with facebook and twiiter as the metaphor for relationships. Soon after we are taken to Lahore of the 1910's where again a visibly claustrophobic set and some really uninspired writing disappoints again.

For a film espousing eternal love, not just does the story of TMK lack the magic, the lead pair too is as insipid as yesterdays lunch. Priyanka and Shahid are competent in the 60's attire save for Shahid's irritating imitation of Shammi Kappor in the Uff song, the pair look too old to play the yuppies from college and too modern to pass off as Lahoris. One cannot decide which is worse, Priyanka's fake now there now missing pujabi accent or her Garnier commercial hangover in the super star Ruksar character. The only saving grace in the entire film is the surprisingly decent music by Sajid Wajid and a delightful yet sadly short cameo by Prachi Desai. She is pleasing to the eye and one wished early on in the film that she had a bigger part to play.

Cheesy beyond belief, TMK lives in a world that is all bubblegum confetti and puppy love. In an age where even thirteen year olds have grown over the love at first sight humdrum of 80's hindi cinema, Kunal Kohli's attempt at a romantic saga comes out as pure superficial and lacking in soul. Stay clear.
