Biography

Ranbir Kapoor

Carrying forward the fourth generation legacy of the Kapoor clan, Ranbir Kapoor is an Indian actor who debuted with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya in 2007. The actor has over the last decade acted in more than 20 movies and is known to be one of the most prominent actors of his generations. Ranbir is the son of famous Bollywood actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh.

Despite having started his career with a flop in the looks of Saawariya, Ranbir still left a big mark and won the best debut award at all major award ceremonies in 2008. His first notable performance and Box Office success came through Ayan Mukherji’s Wake Up Sid in 2008. However, his first major Box Office hit was Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani in 2009. He then repeated a similar feat of success with Rajneeti in 2010 which was directed by Prakash Jha.

Ranbir won his first Best Actor Filmfare award for his performance in Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar which came out in 2011. He didn’t let the applause die down as he delivered another solid performance in the very next year through Anurag Basu’s Barfi. Ranbir once again won the Best Actor award and looked set to become the next big superstar. In 2013, Ranbir delivered the biggest hit of his career Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani and was announced as the biggest box office bet of his generation.

However, his career graph experienced a major setback post YJHD as most of his big ticket outings flopped. While Besharam where he shared screen space with his real life parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh completely crashed at the ticket counters, it was the failure of Bombay Velvet that created major trouble for Ranbir. The actor who had experimented out of his commercial space to come together with Anurag Kashyap had a lot riding on Bombay Velvet which still is one of the most expensive movies to come out of Hindi cinema. The film was trashed by critics and viewers alike and put Ranbir on the back foot seeking a desperation resurrection. Things didn’t get any better as his reunion with Imtiaz Ali for Tamasha also didn’t yield any results.

It was Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil that fetched him his much needed success in 2016. He starred opposite Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai in the movie. ADHM became his third 100 crore grosser in India after Barfi and Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani.

Ranbir turned producer in 2017 with a very ambitious project on celluloid Jagga Jasoos. The project which was helmed by Anurag Basu saw a number of delays which exponentially increased its cost. Ranbir had reunited with his then girlfriend Katrina Kaif for the movie but it couldn’t spill any magic on the box office.

Ranbir made major headlines in 2016 when he signed the much revered biopic on actor Sanjay Dutt. The film was to be directed by Rajkumar Hirani which prompted Ranbir to not let the opportunity go out of his hands. The biopic which later got the title as Sanju kept making news for it involved a massive Ranbir Kapoor transformation on screen. The first working stills of the movie that apparently got leaked on the internet made a lot minds go curious and the excitement kept building up.

The first look teaser of the film came out in April 2018 and took the internet by storm. A lot of trade pundits and analysts put their moneys on the movie touting it to be the best ever performance by Ranbir Kapoor. The trailer of the film released on May 30th and once again proved the prowess of Ranbir Kapoor the actor. The film is set to hit the big screens on June 29th.
