Sanjay Dutt, Sanju, Baba, Sanju Baba, Munna, Bollywood Bad Boy, call him whatever you want but he will always remain as one of the most loved Hindi Film actors of all time. One of the very few stars to have witnessed the Bollywood transition through decades, Sanjay Dutt started off his cinematic journey in the 1981 hit Rocky. Sanjay was born in a filmy family where his father Sunil Dutt was already an established star while his mom was a renounced actress who we know as Nargis. Sanju was born on July 29th 1959 in Mumbai.

While he has made news for many reasons other than just movies, his filmography though is a pretty solid submission of art, entertainment and dedication. The actor has been a part of some of the most memorable Bollywood movies including Munnabhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Khalnayak, Saajan, Vaastav and a lot more.
His Munnabhai avatar is in fact an entity that only attributes to him and is considered to be one of the most iconic roles in Bollywood. Sanjay Dutt is also widely regarded as Bollywood’s first bad boy owing to his choices of roles that have over the years put him in a ‘Gangsterish’ category. From Khalnayak and Kaante to Musafir and Agneepath, he has proved his mettle worth in negative roles too.
Sanjay Dutt has also had to go to jail after he was convicted in the Dutt was arrested under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act in April 1993, due to illegal possession of a 9mm pistol and an AK-56 assault rifle. This was during the aftermaths and investigation of Mumbai Bomb Blasts. The actor had to spend 18 months in jail and he was only granted bail in April 1995. More than a decade later in 2007, he was sentenced to six years imprisonment, including his previous term of 18 months. He served his last tenure of jail sentence in Pune’s Yerwada Jail and was finally released in February 2016.
It is estimated that more than 500 crores rupees were riding on him before he finally surrendered to complete his sentence. The last film he shot before going back to jail was the Aamir Khan starrer blockbuster PK which was directed by Rajkumar Hirani. He made his comeback post release through Omung Kumar’s Bhoomi. The film saw a disastrous Box Office fate though.
Rajkumar Hirani in 2016 announced that he was in process of making a biopic on Sanjay Dutt’s life and he chose Ranbir Kapoor to play him on screen. Titled Sanju, the teaser of the film was released on April 24th while the film is scheduled to release on June 29th.
