Deepika Padukone trolled, netizens feel Priyanka Chopra would have been a better fit for Cannes Jury; here’s why

Deepika Padukone is currently attending the Cannes Film Festival wherein she is also a part of the jury this year. While some fans are overjoyed for her representing India on such a prestigious platform, her recent reply after being asked about her role as a jury member has not gone down well with some netizens. The actress had to face some heavy trolling after users found her answer to be vague, confusing, and half-baked to such a serious question.

Talking about the same, the video of Deepika Padukone’s answer on being asked how she will evaluate the movies to be chosen for the festival as her role as the jury for the Cannes Film Festival 2022 went viral on social media. The actress’ reply to the same on just enjoying the creative process and not burdening themselves with the responsibility to judge something has left the netizens displeased. One user said, “They should have considered Priyanka Chopra as jury as she is so talented and crystal clear. I love PC.”

Another fan said, “Her reply shows, there is a difference between knowing English and being intelligent” while another user said, “English is not Education.” A netizen further commented, “I mean the number of times she says “I think”… The jury needs much more than just a pretty face. She is representing the Indian cinema, India for god’s sake. These are times when I feel Priyanka would be given such an apt response.” Another user stated, “She must have memorized those lines and used them irrespective of the question asked.” A netizen furthermore wrote, “Amazing how someone who has not even acted in a single Cannes worthy film is sitting on its jury.” A fan also stated, “This is what happens when you have not done the homework and are not attentive enough in class. Been through such moments in class 6, 7 & 8.” Furthermore, taking a dig at her, a netizen said, “Reminds me of my viva answers in college.”

Talking about Deepika Padukone’s answer, the actress had replied, “I think we are all aware of the fact that it is a huge responsibility. But, I think, we have also made a promise to each other yesterday that we are not going to burden ourselves with that responsibility. I think the idea is to remind ourselves of that audience, or of that young child who’s grown up watching movies and been inspired. I think cinema is such a powerful tool, such a powerful medium, it has the ability to impact people’s lives and touch and influence people’s lives. So, I think, for the next two weeks, [we must forget] that we have this burden and this responsibility and actually just enjoy the creative process, that's sort of what we are all here to do. I think we are all creative people. I don’t think any of us have the capacity to judge, critique, or criticize.”
