Paris 2024 Paralympics: Manish Narwal clinches SILVER in P1 men's 10m air pistol SH1 final, secures India's 4th medal

Indian shooter Manish Narwal steadily advanced from the bottom to clinch the silver medal in the men's 10m air pistol (SH1) final at the Paris 2024 Paralympics on Friday. After 24 shots, Narwal finished in second place with a score of 234.9.

Previously, Narwal won gold in the mixed 50m pistol SH1 event at the Tokyo Paralympics three years ago. Hailing from Faridabad, Narwal has also earned multiple medals—gold, silver, and bronze—in various national and international competitions. With this, he has won India their 4th medal, just on Day 2.

After briefly holding the top spot, he led for a significant portion of the competition before falling behind due to a series of poor scores, ultimately conceding the gold medal to veteran South Korean marksman Jo Jeongdu. In the SH1 class, athletes can hold their guns comfortably and shoot from either a standing or seated position, whether in a wheelchair or a chair.

To reach the final, the 22-year-old shooter scored 565, earning the 5th spot among the top eight competitors. His compatriot Rudransh Khandelwal narrowly missed out on the medal round, finishing ninth with 561, just one point behind Uzbekistan’s Server Ibragimov, who secured the last qualification spot for the final.

Earlier, Avani Lekhara won gold and Mona Agarwal clinched bronze in the women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1, marking the start of India’s medal tally at the Paris Paralympics.

On Day 2, Palak Kohli lost three games to Indonesian superstar Oktila in her badminton match. She should still be able to go to the knockout stage if Oktila can beat the French shuttler in this group.
