A fictional drama made with the same group of actors over a 12-year period from 2002-2013 -- takes a one-of-a-kind trip, at once epic and intimate, through the exhilaration of childhood, the seismic shifts of a modern family and the very passage of time. The film tracks 6 year-old Mason (Ellar Coltrane) over life's most radic...more

“Boyhood is a bold, complex and unique cinematic masterpiece that has to be seen. We take our hat off to the director, Richard Linklater.”

Boyhood is a very interesting take on a familiar plot. It's about the story of a boy who lives with his mom and sister, and their struggle to lead a normal life as a family. The twist here lies in the fact that this movie was shot over a decade, almost chronicling the growth of the boy in a documentary fashion. It's very well done, using music as cues to give an idea as to what year it might be. However there is one, not so small problem. The boy isn't really that interesting at all, especially after he hits puberty.

Mason is a normal kid, living with his mom and his sister, Samantha. His father has been missing in his life for a while, creating undue pressure on his mom to give her kids a good life. Boyhood is about his story, how he goes from one city to another, how his mom drifts from one failed marriage to the next. It's about friendship, love, disappointment, anger and most of all, life. Can a child grow up to be completely normal in such circumstances?

Boyhood is extremely unique in how it has been shot. however, around the halfway mark, the novelty factor kinda loses its charm. It also doesn't help that the protagonist becomes less easier to relate with as the movie goes on. However, and excellent supporting cast does ensure you get mileage out of this film. Watch it for it's uniqueness, if nothing else.
