Cinderella is the live action remake of the Disney classic. Based on the bedtime story, it manages to retain all of the charm and magic of the original. In fact, I'd wager the move to live action makes this fairytail a tad more relatable than the animated original. This wouldn't have been possible, however, without excellent performances from the cast, who complete the charm offensive directed at the audience.

Ella is a kind hearted and good natured young girl, who suffers the loss of her mother very early in her life. Her father, a merchant remarries after some time. Her new stepmother, Lady Tremaine (played by the excellent Cate Blanchett), brings with her two daughters, Anastasia and Drizella. Soon after, Ella's father mysteriously passes away, and her life takes a significant turn for the worse as her stepmother starts showing her true colours (they aren't good, in case you were wondering). Nicknamed Cinderella, by her evil step sisters, she's treated badly by all the members of her 'family' until one day, she happens to run into a handsome young man chasing a stag. Not knowing that he is the Prince, she convinces him to let the stag go. The prince, who has instantly fallen for her, is trying to get out of an arranged marriage with a princess. A grand ball is held, in which all the ladies of the town are invited. Cinderella wanted to go, but her stepmother forbids her and tears apart her dress. Just when all is looking bleak, a fairy godmother reveals herself. With the help of a few mice and a pumpkin, Cinderella is transformed into a princess and makes her way to the ball.

It seems disney has a new trend of turning their classics into live action films. This is a good thing, because their effort here is excellent. Brilliant performances by all the actors involved, with a little fairy dust sprinkled here and there, Cinderella is a great movie that definitely deserves a watch. Todays' kids should consider themselves lucky.
