Declaration:I have not seen the Conan movie with Arnie so cannot compare it with this one for you. I guess people whom have will invariably find the first one better.
Conan the Barbarian is truly a barbaric movie. In the first 15 minutes, there was a nose cut off and a man killed by pouring molten steel on him. The rest of the movie is no better (or worse, depending on now much you like artificial blood and false limbs being thrown randomly around). I guess, it lives up to it's name.
The story is about Conan, who in true Hindi film fashion, makes it his life's mission to avenge his father's death (from the liquid steel). His search for his dad's killer throws into his path also a demure damsel of pure blood whom obviously the killer wants for that blood so that he can bring his sorceress wife back to life and rule the world.(I seem to be writing this phrase a lot these days).
Anyway, as you would have figured, the story exists so we can be part of this giant game with murder and mayhem thrown in, in huge doses. The visual effects are fantastic and for once I did not mind the 3D bit. The special effects and gimmickry are what make this movie worth watching.
Strictly for the boys I would think so or girls who like to drool over a man with huge muscles, matted hair and a slightly duh look.
