Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their signature roles as Lloyd and Harry in the sequel to the smash hit that took the physical comedy and kicked it in the nuts: Dumb and Dumber To. The plot takes Lloyd and Harry on a road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had and the responsibility neither should ever, ever be given.

“Dumb and Dumber To‬ is proof to the theory that sometimes, sequels just aren't the way to go. Thumbs down. Sorry, Jim Carrey.”

Let's get one thing out of the way. A long awaited sequel to one of the most iconic comedies of an era will have impossible expectations to meet. It's very rare that a sequel comes close to the original, let alone exceed it. Nostalgia almost inevitably ends up ruining a sequel in many cases. However, nostalgia is a double edged sword. It can make a crappy movie seem a whole lot better than it is, and that, is Dumber and Dumber to's saving grace. Fans of the first movie are far more likely to enjoy this disappointing sequel than newcomers to the series.

Twenty years after the events of the first flick, Harry goes to meet Lloyd, who resides in a mental asylum. Lloyd reveals to him that he has been faking his mental issues as a big set up to prank Harry. After a bit, Harry reveals that he has a daughter, who he needs to get in contact with so that she may donate him a kidney, as Harry has been suffering from a kidney disease for some time. Thus begins a journey in which they must travel across the country in their 'vehicle', looking for Harry's long lost daughter.

Dumb and Dumber 2 has many faults: It relies too much on shock humour and cheap gags. It's also far less endearing than the original. However, it does mostly deliver on the laughs, and that's what this movie is all about. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels do a pretty decent job, even if it sometimes looks like they're trying too hard. Overall, its a decent comedy that should have been much, much better.
