In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a man who believes he has put his mysterious past behind him and dedicated himself to beginning a new, quiet life. But when McCall meets Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he can’t stand idly by – he has to help her. A...more

“The Equalizer‬ is as cliched as it is entertaining. With the likes of Denzel Washington lending the film a lot of badass-ness, why would anyone want to miss it?”

We have had movies of peace loving simple men turning into killing machines in order to dispense justice to bad men harassing helpless people. One more on the list, a kind of terminator minus the weaponry and the panache but with tons of confidence. He single handedly tracks down, and kills all the bad men. He does not also spare a couple of bribe taking cops.

So we have our peaceful worker at the mart ( Denzel Washington)) who cheerfully pushes carts, says hello to all co-workers and after working hours can be found at the local diner sipping his coffee. Looks like nothing can agitate this guy but very soon he is challenging sinister Russian dons who have been troubling a helpless girl. How he manages to demolish 3 of them using his confidence and wits more than any weapon needs to be seen.

Using his special talent for super quick brutal killing of the bad men, Denzel helps his co worker to get back his property.A one man army if ever there was one. A friend of the underdog and the down trodden. He speaks very little but when he does,he says deep stuff like " If you ask for the rain, you have to deal with the mud".

Director Antoine Fuqua manages to create enough action and suspense, and it is pretty engaging if you overlook the credibility part. Denzel Washington has done better roles and this character of a volcano which erupts on seeing injustice is done well. I think the scenes lack credibility and that is a huge negative point which brings down this film.
