I loved reading the Snow Queen growing up and so was quite nervous taking my 4 year old for Disney's take on it...their past record of the " exoticisation" of Princess Jasmine, of Aladin suggesting how we all should " Just Call Me Al" , the trouble I had with how Mulan and Pocahontas tale got appropriated. .. and also the movie will only move on only when you know the parents (or just the mum) moves on to her " new home in that farm in the sky". I could go on, sigh.

I feared Frozen would pan out like Aaina, and when the precocious Princess Anna channelled a bit of Juhi Chawla, her elder sister Princess ( later Queen) Elsa getting Amrita Singh's snarl down pat.. my heart well froze. But the film soon steers into Karan Johar territory , beautiful people running around in sub zero temp in sheer chiffons, and the movie nudging you into admitting that in the end "true love" is only about loving your family (and Didi-- even if she locks herself up from the world and has severe anger et fear management issues---ne duniya dekhi hai Chutki, so shut up and listen to her). Also larka larki dost nahi ho sakte...seriously let me just go back and take a look at the credits, perhaps Karan Johar was ON the project.

The movie looks beautiful, and there are sequences that will awe the jaded preschoolers still, sated as they are with a steady fare of 3 D offerings at the cinemas since they were in pampers.

I was just chuffed when the kids in the audience whooped and chuckled when they played a faux vintage Mickey and friends reel before the main feature, perhaps there will always be an appreciative audience for good writing.
