This is another one of those teenage movies with a vampire/ alien, a drippy girlfriend who contrasts sharply with the feisty alien girl, a couple of other alien/non alien funny or bad guys and a pet.

Alex Pettyfer ( who does not look much like a young teenager in high school) plays John, alien no 4 who is one of the chosen 9 kids with special powers who have escaped their planet Lorien and are now being hunted on earth by their arch enemies the Mogadorians who invade planets not to colonize, but decimate. They have bad teeth, round heads and tattoos like guys wear on Dance India dance. John has to lose his mentor first and then meet up with No 6 to discover all his powers and fight against the evil Mogadorians. In the midest of all that he also falls in love with drippy girl and makes friends with a nerdy guy whose dad is supposedly abducted by the Mogadorians. (I swear I am not making all this up)

The action is slow and languid. If they had shown us some more fights earlier on using the powers the movie could have kept me involved. Instead we have to wait till the last part of the movie for all the fighting to happen. Till then, John has some school fights with his laser beam hands and kisses the girl.

This one is strictly for teenagers who seem to love romances with weird creatures. Be warned, there were 9 of them. 3 are thankfully dead but 6 waiting to be found. A sequel comes out in August 2011 and with my luck I will have to review it.
