When Will Salas is falsely accused of murder, he must figure out a way to bring down a system where time is money literally enabling the wealthy to live forever while the poor, like Will, have to beg, borrow, and steal enough minutes to make it through another day.

“An extremely interesting premise gets wasted due to its careless treatment. Even actors like Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried couldn’t take this sci-fi thriller beyond a one-time-watch.”

Watching In Time is reminiscent of The Adjustment Bureau from earlier this year, and much like that one, it is not something to go gaga over.

Justin Timberlake is in a weird world where time is the new currency, and people get paid, work and kill for time. Everyone knows how much time they have left, and works hard to increase this time. Justin is gifted a century of time by a person committing suicide. Accused of killing the donor of this time, he is on the run. The film follows this run of his. What ensues is an average two odd hours that leave a lot to be desired.

For a sci-fi film with such an interesting premise, there is minimal exploration of the theme. Resting more on the lead pairs non existent chemistry (more on that a little later) and some slick action sequences, the film seems to have the sci-fi tag as a mere accessory and not its main plot. Facets to a world where one knows when s/he would die are never explored.

That would have been pardonable, had the lead pair managed a sizzling onscreen presence. Individually both Justin and Amanda are good actors. Together they have zero chemistry. There are no sparks between them and the romantic angle seems quite forced in the plot.

In Time is not a pain to watch. The primary fault however is the fact that it refuses to rise beyond being an average action fantasy movie. At best, this is an opportunity squandered.
