What do you expect from a horror movie? Something not cliched - check. A ghost that has some character, some interesting characteristics - check. An excellent soundtrack to assist the camera scaring the audience between them - check. It Follows also gives you a moral dilemma - brilliant for a horror movie, so much so you are drawn into the intrigue of the plot as much as you are drawn away scared by the ghost itself.

Jay (Maika Monroe) has sex with her boyfriend. It turns out to be an expensive ordeal as he just passed her his curse. A devil that will follow her unrelentingly and not rest until she is taken. The only way to avoid the curse is to give it to someone else by having sex with them. Interestingly, this violent devil has some limitations. Always moving straight and hence not fast or furious appearing out of nowhere like most other ghosts, this one can shift its shape and could approach its victim as anything. Can you take that suspense of something moving towards the victim always creeping you out. Can the victim ever free itself as the ghost mysteriously moves back to anyone who has had the curse after killing the last one with the curse. In a way, the ghost metaphorically could be a punishment for sex, say like AIDS. You could delay the inevitable, by running away but it is always moving towards you, horrifically.

It Follows has an excellent context and more importantly, lives up to the script. It will scare you and that is what we want from our horror movies, no?
