John Hammond has a vision for a unique type of park. Something that has not been conceived before, even remotely, by the human mind. He plans to harvest dinosaur DNA from prehistoric mosquitos (perfectly preserved within amber) and resurrect dinosaurs. All this, for the entertainment of humans through a 'family theme park'

The first film you ever see in your life means a lot to you. Naturally, when I entered the theater way back in 1993 at the age of 5, it wouldn't be surprising that I would come out shaken out of my wits. I couldn't believe what my eyes and ears had witnessed. It was when I first experienced the feeling of "awe". It also led to me believe (for a major chunk of my boyhood) that dinosaurs exist. No, I mean we all know they "existed" but I genuinely believed they "exist". On earth. In 1993. The experience still remains unmatched. As long as the 3D gives the makers an excuse to re-release the film, I wouldn't like to say a word against it.

Steven Spielberg is one of my heroes. He taught me how to look up at the sky. He taught me that growing up is hard but that it's okay. He promised to store the wonders of childhood safely in his films. He never ever disappointed.

I don't want to tell you what the story of the film is (you should either know it already or stop reading this right now and purchase that ticket!) but I want to tell you what I think the film is about. Yes, it's about dinosaurs, but to me, it is a lot more. It is about the human ego. The dinosaur is a metaphor for ego. How? Well, Spielberg made a film called 1941 (1979), which was a resounding flop, post the gargantuan successes of Jaws (1975) and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977). In one of his interviews, he said he had become so egoistic about his talents that he thought anything he would touch will turn into gold. The failure of the film was a huge blow to him but it was the biggest lesson of his life. He learned well since he followed it up with Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) and we all know how the rest of his balanced career panned out.

Jurassic Park is probably Spielberg's most naked film. It is about realizing when you're going wrong and to step back from indulging in your whims. It is about learning when to stop. Sure Schindler's List, released in the same year and E.T. The Extra Terrestrial (1982) are the ones closest to his heart. The latter is also my favorite film of his; I have grown to love it even more than this film. But what I'm trying to say is; it's easy to make people feel something while watching your film but it's difficult to offer entertainment and reflect upon your weaknesses at the same time. When you unleash your inner demons and eradicate them through the screen without compromising on entertainment. That to me is art. It may not be his most personal effort but it's his truest film.

Oh and just in case you're wondering whether I think dinosaurs roam the earth even now. Well, they do. I know they do. If you don't believe me, you're in the wrong theater.
