New Years Eve is a few days away so this film releasing now is probably the makers idea to help people reflect on the year gone by and make plans for their New Years Eve.

Whats it about? Filled with 18 stars and spread over one day the film on last count has 8 major short stories in one film.

Does it work? Yes

Why? I am a sucker for good romantic films even the sappy and cheesy ones if they are done well and this one is that movie which I was deprived of this whole year. Gary Marshall is a veteran when it comes to films dealing with romance. This is almost a sequel in spirit to last years Valentines Day. Gary gets the casting spot on with not a single actor/character out of place in the film. The most entertaining actor was Sofia Vergara as Eva. Her timing and lines were scene stealers. The best LOL line in the film was by Russel Peters. Watch out for the Laura (pronounced with an accent) joke which I believe only the Indians will get. Out of the stories Halle Berrys and Robert De Niro were the ones which brings a lump in your throat. The one featuring Michelle Pfeiffer and Zac Efron was quite a fun ride. Lea Michele who I thought was Russel Peters daughter who my wife corrected as she was in Glee makes a sparkling debut. Katherine Fugate who also wrote Valentines Day delivers a better screenplay this time. This is one film that made me want to spend a new years eve at the Times Square once in my life.

Final few words: A perfect date film to end the year.

Rating: *** (Good)

Ticket Meter: Worth a visit to the theatre.
