"Playing It Cool" is the story of ME, a young man disillusioned by love, who meets a breathtaking young woman, HER, at a charity dinner by pretending to be a philanthropist. “Playing it Cool falls so badly on its face that even Chris Evans couldn't hold it up. ”

It's a bit odd, seeing Chris Evans as anything other than Captain America. Its feels just as odd, seeing his character be so different from the goody two shoes Marvel Superhero. Anthony Mackie being in the cast only adds to this confusion, however short it lasts. The leads having no names doesn't help either. Pitched as a rom-com, Playing it cool comes up short when it comes to the laughs. However, it does have the drama part done quite well.

Chris Evans (Me, or the Narrator), is a narcissistic writer with abandonment issues caused by his mother leaving him when he was a child. This makes him actively destroy all his relationships. One day, he's hired to write the script for a romance movie. Being completely clueless, he tries to live vicariously through the romances of his friends. When that idea falls flat, he decides to try and find love for himself. And he succeeds. He meets his perfect woman (Michelle Monaghan), but there's a snag. She's engaged. They work out a deal though: The both of them can be friends (Because that ALWAYS works, doesn't it?).

Playing it cool could've been great, but ends up a little better than 'decent'. It doesn't have any glaring flaws, but doesn;t have any overwhelming pro's either. All the actors have performed well, with Michelle Monaghan being the best of the lot, but they're all limited by the script. You're not going to regret watching this flick, but that shouldn't be the reason you go to see a movie, should it?
