Standby is about two friends Rahul Narvekar and Shekhar Verma whose only passion is football. Their lives change as this beautiful game turns ugly with the entry of cheap politics. The fate of footballers will no longer be decided on the ground.

“A typical sports movie with a disappointing background score and editing that looks amateurish. But with great dialogues, strong narration and a few brilliant performances Standby becomes a one-time watch.”

Chak de presented the plight of Indian Hockey Team today then we saw Dana Dan Goal which tried to present Plight of soccer team but unfortunately it did not work due to more drama than breath taking soccer matches. Now we have Sanjay Surkar's 'Stand By' , which showcases the involvement of politics in team selection and how due to that deserving players are kept as stand by or not even selected in the team.

Stand By is a story of a business tycoon Surendra Pal (Dalip Tahil), who is the president of Indian Football Federation and wants his son Shekhar (Siddharth kher) to play for the Indian Soccer team. When the team get selected Rahul ( Adinath Kothare), son of ex-footballer Damodar (Sachin Khedekar) gets selected due to his potential and Shekhar being a spoilt brat lands up as stand by. Surendra uses his power of position to the utmost level to get his son in the main team. He plays all sort of ugly games with Rahul to make his son the captain of Indian Soccer Team. Coach Manish Choudhary understands the dirty politics played on Rahul and comes to his rescue. He tells Surendra Pal that due to this sort of political involvement, Indian Soccer Team is not able to emerge and is still on Stand By.

The message that National Award Winner Surkar wanted to send across via Stand By is an eye opener as our Indian Soccer Team still has no place on international level. This sensitive subject has been handled with lot of maturity by the film-makers. Movie shows that when politics start ruling sports the result is "STAND BY". Good narration, strong dialogues and intelligently placed football matched will keep you engaged throughout. Speaking of Performances veteran Sachin Khedkar and Dalip Tahil were brilliant. Adinath Kothare did a commendable job and high brighter prospects in Indian cinema. Siddharth Kher was decent but need to work on few areas to keep himself in Bollywood.

Music of the film was a big turn off as it actually hampered the pace of the movie. Camera work was amazing especially the way soccer matches were showcased. Editing was again a big showdown as movie looked dragged but good narration & dialogues made this movie a one-time watch for me.
