In what I can easily call, the most awaited film by far this year, Christopher Nolans last & final instalment in the Batman series, The Dark Knight Rises finally arrives this week.
With Nolan setting the expectations so high after the first two films, how does one sit in those seats not waiting to be blown away? The question is, does it?
Massive scale, an epic film for any Batman fan, but falls short compared to the knockout that was The Dark Knight.

So without giving out much of the story, ill cover only what you already know.
Its been eight years since Batman is gone & Gotham has been in safe hands. But a new terrorist leader in the form of the powerful Bane arrives & decides to complete the work Ras al Ghul left unfinished.

Batman returns to protect the city but is met with tough resistance from Bane. Add to that, we also have Catwoman, a sexy burglar who plays a pivotal role in the fate of Gotham city.
With nothing strong enough to beat Bane, can our superhero muster up the strength to take him down. In addition, our favourite cop, Commissioner Gordon is back & he too has a strong hand to play if Gotham is to survive this revolutionary adversary.

Does Batman save Gotham?
Does Bane kill Batman?
You have to watch & find out.

While the first half is the build-up, the second is the action. At almost 2hrs 45min long, this epic saga takes its time to unfold. The film has a few twists but comic book fans wont be too surprised.

Some of the scenes are breathtaking, especially Banes introduction scene, Batman chase through the city & the stadium being blown up.

Bane portrayed by Tom Hardy is a delight to watch & is in incredible shape for his part. Batman plays a vulnerable hero in this one & Nolans depiction of a powerful yet real superhero is brilliant.
Catwoman is feisty but her character has a weak storyline.

While Batman Begins was gritty, Dark Knight was massively entertaining & was almost magic that was spun by The Joker. The final film in comparison is more depressing, which in a way is the emotion that Nolan wishes to convey.

My only issue with the film is that Batman doesnt come across as the true hero in the film. While his return to Gotham in the film saves them, it is very abrupt & surely a little random in the narrative flow.

Director Chirstopher Nolan succeeds in wrapping up the series but slightly falters in terms of the pace of the film. Parts do fall & tend to become sluggish & the climax could have been more convincing.

At the end, its a closure to one of the most brilliant takes on a superhero that moved from a fluffy caricaturish Batman of the 90s to an epic crime fighting saga.

A film that could have been much darker than it ended up being; a swap between Dark Knight & Dark Knight Rises would have been the most fitting end in actuality.
