“Vampire Academy is neither original nor refreshingly funny as it borrows a lot from previous films within the genres. Strictly for fans of the source material.”

You have to wonder when the ads for a movie announce "They suck at school," did they actually think it would be witty or were they simply applying an adjective more apt in describing the quality of the movie elsewhere. Based on a series of best-selling novel (the first in a series of six) by Richelle Mead, it’s quite astonishing that they managed to get Olga Kurylenko and even more so Gabriel Byrne to partake in this pile of trash; maybe they are running short on rent money.
This is a stinking heap of inferior writing supplemented by a roster of pretty young things in short or tight clothes whose only sole purpose is to sneer or pout through the movie’s torturous running length of little over an hour and half. It takes place at a tony private school, St. Vladimir's, populated vampires (good and evil), who feed upon other human students, who for most of it don’t mind, must be the orgasmic feelings that the bites arise. So there are romantic liaisons, nefarious schemes, double crosses and other plot twists that you could see a mile away even if a thick forest stood in your field of vision.
For those who have read the books, this movie might hold some intrigue or interest, for others, it’s best avoided unless animal sacrifice and mutilation is something that thrills you. The Harry Potter-esque sets and surroundings (cheaper alternatives) are dull as everything else in the movie and only distract from the faux horror on display.
Twilight set the ball rolling and everyone’s been trying to pick it up since, the only loser in this attempt to milk the cow is the viewer, who has to endure a rash of such unpardonable trash. Money spent on the making of this movie could have funded something far more entertaining and worthy of your time. Be smart, and stay away, this really sucks!
