The Vatican Tapes is a borefest. There's not a single unique thing in the entire movie. The scares are predictable. There's nothing even remotely scary in the entire film. A huge reason for this is because of the one dimensional characters present in the film. It's hard to feel scared for someone you couldn't give two hoots about. The negligible character development done in the early part of the film is completely responsible for this.

Angela is a typical happy go lucky young woman who just happens to get possessed somehow.. Her father, Roger and her boyfriend Pete, don't understand what they're dealing with and get her admitted to a hospital. After many unsuccessful attempts to get her well, her father suddenly decides to listen to the advice of a local priest, Lozano and starts to believe that Angela is possessed. However, Angela is possessed by no ordinary demon. Father Lozano believes that whatever is possessing her is the manifestation of evil itself. Such exorcisms are way above his pay grade, so he decides to call in the big guns. Cardinal Brunn is called from the Vatican to deal with this pesky demon. However, even he doesn't quite know what he's in for.

The Vatican Tapes is extremely disappointing. A horror movie that isn't found footage is a unicorn these days. It just so happens that this Unicorn is actually a donkey with a horn grafted to its head. The performances are ok. They could even be good, but they're brought down by the absolutely dull, cookie cutter characters. The CGI is a hit or miss as well. Definitely not worth a watch.
