In 2010 we had 'The Fighter' given to us which impressed a lot. This year we get 'Warrior' which is not too far behind. This time around the main characters who are also siblings happen to be fighting in Mixed Martial arts which make the fight scenes even more brutal. While 'The Fighter' had big names associated with the movie, 'Warrior' has no such luck. Probably Tom Hardy is the only known actor due to his impressive stint as Eames in 'Inception'.

The plot runs in parallel for the first half of the movie. Tommy Conlon (Tom Hardy) is an ex marine and ex wrestler. He is traumatized by his past life which also includes the death of his mother after being estranged by his alcoholic father. He returns to Pittsburgh to take part in a MMA tournament to win money and seeks help from his father just to coach him. Brendan Conlon (Joel Edgerton) on the other hand is an ex UFC fighter and is in terrible debt to pay the installments for his house loan. He decides to take part in the same tournament to save his house. The brothers meet at the tournament along with their father and all hell breaks loose as the enmity amongst them is unleashed. Progressing in the battle amongst the best MMA fighters, the brothers face off each other in the final.

The movie is well written and excellently executed. Gavin O'Conor doubles up as the screenplay writer and director. Although the pace of the movie is a little slow to begin with but picks up drastically 30 minutes into the movie. The character shades shown for Tommy are mind blowing. You can almost feel his pain, frustration and anger. But the character build up created for one of the other fighter's Koba played by Kurt Angle seems to be under utilized. However, the final few moments of the film are priceless and elevates the movie's standards.

Tom Hardy blows up the screen with his magnificent performance. He does not have many lines but in the end does not need them. He emotes through his eyes brilliantly. Joel Edgerton too puts in an honest performance that can be lauded. The surprise package for me was Jeniffer Morrison who lit up the screen every time she came on it.

Overall, a very good watch.
