Dolphin TaleWatch trailerRelease date : November 04, 2011

Kids, dolphins and disability. This film has it all to tug at your heartstrings. The film is a sweet tale of friendship, courage and the will to survive against all odds. Winter the Dolphin has an accident getting caught in crab traps and has her tail amputated. With the help of two 11 year olds and a bunch of marine biologists and prosthetic doctors, the dolphin gets a new lease on life and is able to swim again; in the process saving a marine animal rescue center and giving hope to countless animals and humans who have lost a limb.

This is a true story and Winter the Dolphin plays herself in the film. This is what makes the film so heartwarming to watch. Of course it has the standard cliched plot points and some seen before emotions from previous animal flicks, but it still manages to choke you up many a time. "Dolphin Tale" has more heart and soul than most of the films released in the past five years - put together. Do remember to check out the actual footage from Winter's rescue and her journey to rehabilitation running over the end credits.

Director Charles Martin Smith quickly establishes the premise and dives right to the heart of the matter. He uses underwater cameras, trained animals and some first-rate actors (read Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd) to tell a story that not only needs to be told for its sheer inspirational value but also to raise awareness about the plight of marine animals, in the wake of films like "Cove". For the most part it is a successful attempt.

Young actor Nathan Gamble (Marley & Me) stands tall amongst seasoned pros like Freeman, Judd and Harry Connick Jr (seen after ages since P.S. I Love You). Even Winter the Dolphin performs like a thespian and entertains, delights and touches your heart.

Its a good family flick to watch and a must see for the Playstation/Wii generation. In an age where Disney has lost its way and retarded superhero flicks abound, "Dolphin Tale" comes as a breath of fresh air to remind us of that sometimes the most simple things on the surface actually run deeper than you can imagine. Go for it. You'll have a change of heart.
