I love Mr. Bean, however many times I watch the films or the series. So a chance to watch Atkins don a similar role in a sequel to the 2003 Bond spoof Jhonny English is a good idea to me. This might not be the case for most, since Jhonny English Reborn doesn't have anything new to offer in terms of plot or storyline.

M17 senses a threat to the life of visiting Chinese premier and calls on its most trusted spy, Atkins, to save the day. Atkins, who is on a sabbatical bordering on retirement, comes back, only to find things wrong at the M17 end of the puzzle. How he takes one wrong step after the other in the process of saving the premier forms the rest of the movie.

Atkins plays the fumbling mad crazy idiot to the hilt. The film has some really funny spoofs of recent Bond films, like the cards game aka Casino Royale. A funny side kick and hot assistant to boot, the film has it's lighter moments. Yet, it can get difficult to sit through the same tom foolery scene after scene for many. After a point, there is no ingenuity in the way laughs are sought from the audience, and as is the case always, the film ends up being a one man show by Atkins.

Jhonny English Reborn needed help in the scripting department. A dash of freshness is missing, and so is some imaginative thinking. For die hard fans of Atkins, like me, however, the film will work. Just watching the man in action can get us rolling on the floor with laughter. For the rest of the film going crowd, save that money, wait for the film to get on to TV. less
