Every once in a while you come across a brilliant film or maybe a very good film. You like every thing about it. But it just fails to connect with you one hundred percent. Last Night is one such film. It has a unique take on lost love and infidelity in reference to both men and women and how and why people separate. Its the little things that take you by surprise.

Keira Knightly is fast becoming an actor who is beyond her years. She approaches scenes with a certain restrain that really compliment the nuances in the screenplay. Eva Mendes is apt in the role of the sexy other woman, while Sam Worthington looks as wooden as his animated avatar.

First time director Massy Tadjedin who incidentally is the writer of the film as well is true to her craft. While the screenplay drags in places and takes the help of some obvious clichs (a sexy accented man offering his shoulder to the estranged wife), Tadjedin shows innovation in her scene setting and camerawork. The editing goes non linear in places and gives the film a pseudo intellectual air (which is only fair since the film is about artsy rich New Yorkers). Here is where the film lacks the most.

Overall its a good weekend movie night option or a date night any other time of the week. 3 stars.
