Verdict - A middling effort from Tim Burton.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children Watch trailerRelease date : October 07, 2016

In "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children", Tim Burton both sticks to the tired cliches of the YA fantasy genre, and occasionally displays flashes of briliance. The film works particularly strong during its early portions. Asa Butterfield plays Jake, a typical wide-eyed kid with an eye for the fancy that's along the lines of his character from Hugo (also very common in movies such as the Harry Potter series, or those by Steven Spielberg) who hears stories from his grandfather about monsters and stuff, and soon gets involved in one such story directly. In keeping with Burton's staple style, there's wonderful whimsy to how Burton builds the fantasy world. But the film never comes together as a whole or manages to convince us why it's worth our investment. An occasionally brilliant touch here, a "wow" moment there, is surrounded by a bits that just don't work. "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" isn't particularly hard to watch because the film randomly keeps throwing at you these moments that work, but it's also a hard film to love, because it never stops feeling like an opportunity half-wasted.
