Being the fifth addition to the family of the Conjuring films, The Nun is a poorly written plot not bearing any horrific or scaring elements. The makers of conjuring films seem to have taken their audience for granted as if the audience will accept and appreciate anything made under the mark of the conjuring series.
Although the trailer of “The Nun” attracted a lot of publicity and was being awaited by the fans of Conjuring movies, this movie is a big disappointment to the fans. A church in a cloistered abbey in Romania grabs attention when a young nun commits suicide. A young novitiate and a priest are sent by the Vatican to investigate the matter and resolve the doubts about the holiness of the place. Sensing an unholy and demonic presence lurking in dark corridors of the church, together they try to find out the ways to end the evil. Risking their lives and souls, but moving along with faith, they confront an evil force in the form of the demonic nun that first appeared and haunted the audience of “The Conjuring 2”. In this battle between the good and the evil, the living and the damned, the nun, however, fails to terrorize the audience.
The movie offers no scares at all and is a mere collection of cliche scenes with a deafening soundtrack. With a running time of 96 minutes there are but few thrilling scenes. The movie starts with a good horrifying scene, which makes the movie look promising but then it is just a drag along, with even intentional comedy punches included by the writers. That’s right! Comedy punchlines in a horror movie, which itself seemed like a torture to sit through.
With a weak storyline and plot, there’s not much Demian Bichir and Taissa Farmiga could have added to even with their brilliant acts. Trying to grab attention on the basis of goodwill of other conjuring movies, it seems writers need a new plot and a new ghost brand to terrorize the audience.
Well, the good thing is, people would not lose their sleep this time lying alone in their bed late at night thinking about the demonic nun.
