Extremely entertaining! Thor sure has an image makeover... for the better.
Director Taika Waititi was given a huge responsibility to reshape the character of Thor. And boy, has he done a commendable job at that! And full marks to Marvel Studios for taking a mighty gamble at reshaping a popular character, along with an image makeover!
The Avengers series of films is known for sarcasm and humour. Just that this one has more humour.
The graphics are good, as always, like in typical Marvel films.
This one is set two years after the Battle of Sokovia, and starts off with Thor imprisoned by the fire demon Surtur. Odin introduces Thor - and us - to his wicked sister Hela, whose source of power is from Asgard, and Thor realizes that the only way to defeat his evil older sister and save the citizens is by unleashing Surtur to destroy Asgard.
Wonder what it must be like - being Chris Helmsworth and going through the experience of such a superhero genre. Looks like this must have been a lot of fun!
Tom Hiddleston brings a nice, mischievous touch to Loki, again.
The ever-reliable veteran Sir Anthony Hopkins, as Odin, is graceful.
Here's another film that has a villainess, after the recent Kingsman: The Golden Circle. The extremely talented Cate Blanchett is very good to watch, and is nowhere over-the-top. She brings in her own refreshing identity to the role of Hela.
Meanwhile, it was pure fun watching Jeff Goldblum, who plays The Grandmaster, adding his own touch and humour; so much so that he becomes loveable!
And as if Asgard (if you get the drift) was not enough, the director had to name one wormhole - catch your breath! - Devil's Anus. Oink!
The film's soundtrack is also A-class.
Be prepared for some good cameos by Matt Damon and Benedict Cumberbatch, too, here. :) What other film-makers can learn from these is how Marvel films keeps bringing up extra characters, without hurting or stretching the script.
The God of Thunder and the God of Mischief make a great combination, here.
I did wonder, what the heck Rognarok was, and this article below helped me understand... Am sharing it here, hoping it might help you, too. :)
Of all the Marvel films that I have seen, this one certainly is the funniest, in terms of comedy value.
The Immigrant Song, used as the theme music is so haunting! Led Zeppelin is G-O-D, any-day!
My verdict: 4 out of 5. Total paisa vasool. Top quality graphics. World class, rather, and the 3-D is pleasing on the eye.
And do stay till the very end, for there is also a scene POST the end-credit roll (not to be mistaken with the one DURING the ending credits).
