On one side is the need to make something quirky, a la Snatch. On one side, there is the odd temptation to make a movie laden with a heavy subject around 2 20 something arms dealers for the US in the middle East. Between those two is a director who is still probably suffering from the hangover of Hangover. The cast is good and bot Jonah and Miles do a good job but the script lacks emotion or chemistry and it is bereft of either drama or comic relief. Yes, there is the odd wisecrack but you expect more from the cast. The movie doesn't really give you anything to either love or hate the characters. One is wicked and one is a family man despite the ethical considerations of his business. But, at no point do you feel for either of them. Neither do you feel anything for the way the raging war in the middle east has been portrayed. In fact, the makers didn't want to really comment anything on the war. And then you wonder, what was the ppoint of it all? Was it a prosaic take on the lives of two arm-dealers driving across an interesting terrain? Was it about the war? Do they want us to think about anything at all? And if not, could they at least not have given us a few more good jokes to help us laugh? All in all a movie I could have avoided. Can we really pass this off as a dark-humor take on a true story? Not really. So you are looking for something to pass your time, go for it. If you are looking for a movie that gives you something lasting, well, this is not the one.
