Oscars 2024: Cillian Murphy wins Best Actor Christopher Nolan wins Best Director award for Oppenheimer

Cillian Murphy won the Best Actor award for his portrayal of pioneering atomic-weapons scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, while Christopher Nolan also received an Oscar for directing the epic biopic, which garnered nominations in 13 categories this year.

Murphy triumphed over a formidable lineup for the Oscar, surpassing contenders like Paul Giamatti for The Holdovers, Jeffrey Wright for American Fiction, and Bradley Cooper for Maestro. This marked Murphy's inaugural Oscar nomination.

Winning Best Director for Oppenheimer at the Oscars

Christopher Nolan clinched the Best Director Oscar for Oppenheimer at the Academy Awards. This marked Nolan's first win in the category, having been nominated previously for Dunkirk in 2018. He emerged as the strong favorite for the accolade, securing a string of Best Director awards leading up to the Oscars, including a Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Critics Choice award.

Nolan expressed gratitude to the cast and crew of the film, along with his wife and producer, Emma Thomas. He reflected on the relatively young age of the film medium, highlighting the significance of being recognized by the Academy.

A Stellar Performance at the Oscars

Oppenheimer" has emerged as a frontrunner at the Oscars, showcasing its strength by clinching wins in seven out of the thirteen categories it was nominated for. The film's remarkable achievements include securing accolades for Best Picture Best Supporting Actor, Editing, Sound Design, and Cinematography.
