Acharya: Sonu Sood reveals makers had inhibitions about casting him in negative role

Ever since the pandemic outbreak, actor Sonu Sood has been making headlines for his philanthropic work and has emerged as a real-life hero. However, the actor’s new image is starting to affect his reel image of the antagonist.

The Dabangg actor has featured in a villainous in recently released, Acharya starring megastar Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan. The actor revealed that the makers had inhibitions about casting him in a negative role as they were not sure if the audience would accept him after his messiah image.

“I feel it is very difficult to see me (in a negative role). All the producers, directors, and writers have spoken about how they cannot see me or imagine me in a negative role anymore,” he told Indian Express. Recalling the shooting days, he further revealed that makers had to re-shoot a few scenes. “I remember I started shooting for two films before Covid-19, including Acharya. And they had to rework a little bit on a few scenes. Like in the action sequences, Chiranjeevi sir was not sure if hitting me will be accepted by people. So yes, people are thinking a lot about it.

For the uninitiated, the actor has often been seen playing the role of antagonist in the majority of his films like Singh is King, R..Rajkumar, Dabangg, and Simmba among others. But after the pandemic, the actor feels ‘there is a second-innings on its way’ as he has been offered a plethora of positive roles.

“Even the scripts that are coming my way are all positive roles. So, there is a second-innings on its way. It has been difficult to choose the right one as there is a huge responsibility on you. I think your on-screen image can become a lot related to your real life. By God’s grace, whatever little I did in the last couple of years has given me a new image. It has given writers a new thought in the way they would write my roles, it has given producers the courage to try something different. It (philanthropy work) left an impact (on my career), but a positive one.”he added.

Meanwhile, Acharya is written and directed by Koratala Siva, and bankrolled by Konidela Production Company and Matinee Entertainment . The film also stars Pooja Hegde in a prominent role and was released worldwide on April 29.
