Amid Selfiee's poor box office response, Akshay Kumar hints at new innings after consecutive flops

Akshay Kumar ’s recently released Selfiee is not performing as expected at the box office. Despite a decent response to its trailer and pre-release buzz, moviegoers are not turning up in theatres. The film has so far collected a meager Rs 6.5 crore, failing to break the actor’s dry spell at the box office. In the latest interview, Akshay reflected upon all his flops from the past year as well as his more than three decades of career. While retrospecting, he realized he has to start over again to win back his audience.

The Khiladi actor has given a number of blockbuster movies like Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Hera Pheri, Welcome, Housefull 4, and the list goes on. Talking about his failures, the actor said, "This is not happening with me for the first time. In my career, I have had 16 consecutive flops at a time. There was a time when I had eight films in a row that did not work. Now, I have had three-four films in a row that did not work. The thing is that it happens due to your own fault, film ka na chalna (a film not working). The audience has changed, you need to change, and you need to dismantle yourself. You have to start again because the audience requires you to see something else, " he told AajTak.

Further, the Selfiee actor clarified that when a movie flops, the fault is 100 percent his. “Do not blame the audience or anyone else. It is my fault, 100%. Aapki film na chalna is not because of audience. It is because of what you selected. Maybe you have not given the right ingredients in the film.” For the unversed, Bell Bottom, Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, and Raksha Bandhan are his major duds of 2022. Up next, the actor is geared up another set of movie releases including Gorkha, Capsule Gill, OMG 2, an untitled remake of Soorarai Pottru, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.
