Amidst Saif Ali Khan's Raavan in Adipurush receiving criticism, Dipika Chiklia aka Sita has THIS to say about his portrayal

Ever since the teaser of Adipurush was unveiled, it has been hitting headlines for the wrong reasons. As the film is adapted from the Indian mythological epic Ramayan, the netizens are not quite convinced with the VFX quality and looks of the characters. Especially Saif Ali Khan ’s look of Ravan has faced a lot of flak on social media. Recently, Dipika Chikhlia , who essayed the iconic role of Sita in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, reacted to the teaser and Saif’s look.

In an interview with a news portal, Dipika said that VFX is an essential part but only as long as the people's sentiments are not hurt. Talking about Saif’s character, she said that he looks different and also added that every actor has the liberty to essay a character as their interpretation. “A film's characters must appeal to the audience. If the character is from Sri Lanka, they should not look like Mughals. I could not understand much as we get to see him for mere 30 seconds in the teaser, but he does look different” she told Aajtak.

I agree that times have changed and VFX is an essential part but only as long as the people's sentiments are not hurt. (But then) It is only a teaser, may be it does not do justice to the film.If I try to connect myself with Arvind Trivedi (Ravan in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan), I would not feel good. But I also believe each actor has the liberty to portray a character as their interpretation,” she added.

Adipurush is an ambitious project directed by Om Raut and stars Prabhas in the role of Lord Ram, Kriti in the role of Sita, and Saif Ali Khan in the role of Raavan. Besides trolling, a section of people on social media has now called for a #BoycottAdipurush on Twitter. Several users have expressed disappointment over the teaser saying that it looks like a cartoon network movie. Others asked for a ban as it is tampering with India’s greatest ancient culture. Meanwhile, the film is slated to hit the theatres in January 2023 clashing with Siddharth Anand’s ‘Pathaan’ starring Shah Rukh Khan at the box office.
