Every time whenever utters the name ‘Anurag Kashyap’, what comes before the name is a man who has never learnt to mince his words and will not think twice before calling a spade a spade. These days, he has been ‘trending’ because of his role in the much-awaited series ‘Bad Cop’ which will soon premiere on Disney Plus Hotstar.

Talking about his calling a spade a spade kind of nature, Anurag Kashyap has set another example (read ‘testimony’) of the same. In a recent interview with PTI, Anurag Kashyap gave his opinion on Payal Kapadia and her success at the recently concluded Cannes 2024.

Not one to mince words, Anurag Kashyap said that the victory of Payal Kapadia was being presented as a collective victory of India, which was not the case. He reasoned his statement by saying that there was no one, including the government, who supported such films.

The critically acclaimed filmmaker that he is, went on to say that, India just liked to take credit for a lot of things and that they do not support these films. Anurag added that, they don’t even support these films to have a release in cinema. Not the one to stop at that, Anurag Kashyap said (very strongly) that, everyone should stop taking credit for it and the artificial celebrations. Saying this, he added that, even if the film was released, no one would go to watch it in the theatre.

Anurag Kashyap then, trained his guns on former chairman of FTII Gajendra Chauhan, for taking credit for Payal Kapadia's success. To drive home his point, he cited an incident which had taken place in 2015, where Payal Kapadia was one of the many who were charged under various IPC sections on the grounds of criminal intimidation, rioting and unlawful assembly. This was because Payal happened to be one of the students who had protested against the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the head of the institute.
