On this day (July 7) last year, Indian cinema lost one of its most treasured gems in the form of superstar Dilip Kumar . The legend passed away at 98 after a prolonged illness. On his first death anniversary, former child artist Rahul Singh aka Master Rinku spoke to Desimartini exclusively about his experience while working with the actor in the 1984 movie Duniya .

Talking about working with Dilip Kumar, Rahul Singh told us, “I have some priceless memories while working with the legend. Was too young to understand that these moments would be a part of history. I was very fortunate and blessed as Dilip sir and Saira Ji worked together and I got the opportunity to play their son in the movie Duniya. I played young Rishi Kapoor Ji. It was like a picnic for me in that schedule of 25 days. Dilip Sir used to bring food from home for everyone, but never forgot to bring chocolate and pastry daily for me.” Take a look at the picture of Rahul from the sets of Duniya with Dilip Kumar which was shared with us by the former child artist himself.

Furthermore, the former child artist said that his casting was also done by Dilip Kumar himself. Rahul Singh further added, “My casting was done by the legend only. He met many kids personally on the set who were trained by their parents, but I was selected because of my innocence as Dilip Sahab felt that a kid should behave like a kid only.”

The filmmaker and digital content creator furthermore went on to say, “I remember during the shoot of the song ‘Teri Meri Zindagi ’ from the movie Duniya, we were shooting the whole day on the beach. On that day, we had an indoor shot in the evening wherein the instruction was given by the dance master to Dilip sir and Saira Ji to put me in bed. During this process, I fell asleep in real and Dilip Sahab instructed everyone on set not to wake me up even though the shoot was held for a few minutes. This shows that Dilip Sahab being so big star was still so humble and caring for kids.”

Lastly, Rahul Singh said, “Besides this Dilip Sahab also showed me how to connect to an emotional scene, which helped me a lot in that scene and I gave my best shot.” Talking about Duniya, the film was helmed by Ramesh Talwar. It also starred the late legendary actors Rishi Kapoor and Ashok Kumar along with Amrita Singh and Prem Chopra in pivotal roles.
