Ekta Kapoor has something to say to those trying to pull Akshay Kumar down after Selfiee fails to perform at the box office

Producer Ekta Kapoor took a stand for Akshay Kumar after the opening day numbers of his latest film Selfiee were revealed to be shockingly low. Reported by many publications as Akshay Kumar’s lowest opener in a decade, Selfiee gets added to the actor’s string of flops which have failed to deliver at the box office in the past one year.

Akshay’s back to back flops after Sooryavansi in 2021 have been a big subject of discussion every time one of his film was up for release. His latest, Selfiee which also stars Emraan Hashmi has underperformed at the box office on its opening day earning less than Rs. 3 crores in total. The movie which is a remake of the Malayalam hit Driving License, has been back by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and actor Prithviraj Sukumaran who starred in the original apart from Akshay.

While Selfiee still has the weekend to pick up pace, Ekta Kapoor reacted to all the reporting around Selfiee and how it is one of Akshay’s worst openers at the box office. The producer back Akshay while writing in her Instagram stories, “Akshay Kumar is d most dependable actor to work with!!! Depressing tabloid culture of bringing someone down to highlight his lows is a hugeeeeee low in itself!!! #insensitive,” wrote Ekta.

After delivering a blockbuster with Sooryanavshi in 2021 which revived the box office after the Covid-19 lull, Akshay has seen a string of releases in cinemas which all failed to entice the audience. Bachcchan Paandey, Samrat Pritviraj, Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu all failed to rake in big numbers after which Selfiee’s low opening day box office have the audience to doubt Akshay’s movie choices.

Akshay will be seen next in Hera Pheri 4 and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan which are both currently under production.
