Exclusive- Forensic: Vindu Dara Singh reacts to comparisons with Tovino Thomas starrer Malayalam original ‘We were laughing’

Vindu Dara Singh is currently on a promotional spree for his recently released movie Forensic . The film is the Hindi remake of the 2020 critically-acclaimed thriller-crime flick of the same name which starred Tovino Thomas and Mamta Mohandas in the lead roles. In an exclusive interview with Desimartini, Vindu told us how they were laughing at some of the comments that were comparing their movie with its original Malayalam movie since both the movies are entirely different.

The actor said that the team of their movie was getting comments like “Nobody can do it better than Tovino Thomas” or “Why should we watch a remake?” which only made them laugh. Vindu Dara Singh said, “I'd seen the original film and I've loved it. My son is a movie maniac and can watch every film first day, the first show. He had shown this movie to me and I loved it. The director and all the people associated with that film were excellent and then Mansi (Mansi Bagla, the producer of Forensic) said that I've bought the rights to that film and I was like 'Wow, that's great.' But she told me that she didn't want to make the exact same film and that she only wants the gist and the title of it and the premise that children can also be killers, the rest everything is going to be changed. I thought it was a good idea because that film was a super hit film which a lot of people had seen. Nowadays, because of these multiple OTT mediums, the whole world has become a lot smaller and people can watch different movies in different languages. So, it’s no fun when you make the exact same remake. Like before Himmatwala (2013) and some other films would be shot to shot same but Forensic is absolutely a different movie.”

Furthermore, talking about the comparisons between the two films, the former Bigg Boss 3 winner said, “The people who've seen the original film can never imagine that this Forensic will be an entirely different film that's why you've to see it. And when we were getting these comments that 'Who will watch this remake?' and 'Nobody can replace Tovino Thomas' so we were laughing because this film has nothing to do with the original one. It’s an entirely different film and the team of the original film will be proud after watching our film.”

Talking about playing the role of a cop ‘Rawat Ji’ in Forensic, Vindu Dara Singh said, “Well you see, the director Vishal Furia is a very dedicated and excellent filmmaker. Mansi had told me that 'Vindu you're throughout the movie' and I thought she was joking and I may not be in the entire film. People who saw the movie were actually disappointed saying Vindu why did you get out of the car in the last scene? I was like 'Rohit Roy Ko Bhi Toh Bachana Hai Warna Marr Jayega (laughs). So, I couldn't be there in all the scenes but I was almost in 70 or 80% of the movie. So, I was shocked Ki Mansi Ne Jo Bola Woh Karke Dikha Diya Usne and in Vishal, I had blind trust because he's an excellent director. Also, his team who wrote the screenplay, it’s because of them that the character has turned out to be so lovable. While shooting, Vishal would keep saying that I would get a lot of love because of this character and I knew that this movie will be a hit. We get an idea while working on the film and this project was fantastic. I knew it'll be a huge hit and I told ZEE5 also that this will break all your OTT records and it has already broken it.”

Talking about Forensic, the movie has been directed by Vishal Furia. The movie also features Radhika Apte and Vikrant Massey in the lead roles. It is currently streaming at the OTT platform ZEE5.
