Gangubai Kathiawadi: Pakistani restaurant sees backlash after using a scene from Alia Bhatt starrer as advertisement

A Pakistani-based restaurant in Karachi has been witnessing a severe backlash from the netizens after using a scene from Alia Bhatt ’s Gangubai Kathiawadi as an advertisement. The restaurant was seen using the particular scene from the film where Alia’s character gives in to her deplorable situation and is forced to invite men as potential clients for the first time. Netizens called the restaurant using a scene of a woman thrust into prostitution in the film to be in an extremely bad taste.

Talking about the same, the restaurant’s advertisement saw the usage of Alia Bhatt’s scene from Gangubai Kathiawadi where she is calling it out to the men outside the brothel. The restaurant can be seen flashing their ‘Men’s Monday’ 25% offer which is valid for only their male customers. The advertisement was captioned stating, “Aja na Raja - what are you waiting for? Swings is calling out all the Raja's out there. Ajao and avail a 25% discount on Men's Monday at Swings.” Take a look at the same.

Soon netizens began to lash out at the restaurant for using a sensitive scene from Gangubai Kathiawadi as a advertising strategy. A user stated, “You guys are using such a painful scene for your advertisement???” while another netizen said, “What a pathetic marketing tactic, definitely time to change your marketing team. Absolutely disgusted.” A user also called for the boycott of the restaurant which goes by the name of Swing. The user stated, “Boycotting Swing. Who in their right mind approved of this?” while another netizen wrote, “Every bad is not good enough to be viral. You are among the top cafes in terms of ambiance and food. Please consider your standard this ad is too below the standard you have in the market.”

Talking about Gangubai Kathiawadi, the movie was helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali . It has proven to be one of the most successful films of this year. It also starred Shantanu Maheshwari, Seema Pahwa, Jim Sarbh, and Ajay Devgn in a cameo role.
