One of the most talented, versatile and adored actors of the Hindi film industry, a true gem to Bollywood, Irrfan Khan began his journey in the land of entertainment in 1988 with a minor role. He went on to become one of the most well-known superstars of the country with his spectacular performances in films such as Paan Singh Tomar, Life in a... Metro, Hindi Medium , Piku and The Namesake, among many others. These magnificent characters are one of the ways through which Irrfan continues to live on in our hearts even after he bid the world a final adieu over one and a half years ago.

Last year in an emotional post on social media, the actor’s wife Sutapa Sikdar had shared that the night before he said goodbye, she and her friends sang all his favorite songs for him. Today on the occasion of his 55th birth anniversary, she revealed which songs they had crooned for Irrfan. In a chat with Pinkvilla, Sutapa remembered, “Jhoola kinne dala re, amraiya, jhoole mora saiyaan, loon main baliyaan… from Umrao Jaan , Lag jaa gale ke phir yeh haseen raat ho na ho (Woh Kaun Thi?), the ghazal Aaj jaane ki zid na karo… and some Rabindra sangeet. He was unconscious but he had tears rolling down.”

In March 2018, Irrfan was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor. In April 2020, he was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai to get treated for a colon infection. A day later, he breathed his last leaving his family, fans and the entire nation heartbroken. The last few years have been incredibly difficult for Sutapa, but through it all her sons Babil and Ayan stood by her side as her pillars of strength. We wish the family all the peace and love in the world, today and forever.
