    James Gunn who is currently working on the third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, too to social media to celebrate the success and mark the fifth year anniversary of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

    the movie which hit theaters in 2017 was a critical and commercial success and went on to gross over 860 million worldwide as well as receive an Oscar nomination for Best Visual Effects at the 90th Academy Awards.

    The sequel saw the return of the main cast as they meet Peter Quill's biological father an ancient celestial named Ego played by Kurt Russell

    The movie helped expand the MCU beyond the events of the Infinity Saga and explore more of the cosmic universe that Marvel had to offer and helped establish the next phase of the the MCU

    James Gunn called his ten year journey working on the franchise as “a strange & beautiful odyssey,”

    Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to release in 2023 and will introduce the charter o Adam Warlock played by actor Will Poulter, Adam Warlock was teased in the post-credit scene of GOTG Vol 2

    Gunn has also said that this will be the last time that we see the original Guardians on the big screen as a team, this could be hinting at least a few character deaths but only time will tell

    Meanwhile James Gunn is also working on the Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special which will stream on Disney + in December and will feature the main cast of the movie.

    Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit theaters on May 5, 2023
