The Shahid Kapoor starrer Jersey was released on April 22 into the theatres and despite positive reviews, opened up to a lackluster start at the box office. The film only raked in Rs 3.7 to 4 crore on its opening day. On its second day, the collection has improved a little but is still moving at a snail’s pace.

Talking about the same, according to some trade analysts, Jersey has shown a growth of 45% in the collection on Saturday (April 23). The movie has garnered Rs 5 crore reportedly which is an improvement but is not a very massive growth too. The film is continuing to have a tough time with the KGF : Chapter 2 box office storm.

The movie Jersey was expected to do well on its opening day with estimates ranging from Rs 6 to 7 crores. However, the Shahid Kapoor starrer’s business has been dubbed disastrous on opening day and has also shut down all prospects for the film. From here on, it seems a mammoth task for the movie to even hit a total of Rs 40 crores in the long term.

A news report in Box Office India had mentioned, “Jersey had a low opening day of around 3.75-4 crore net and the collections of the film did not jump much in the evening. Obviously, they were better than compared to the morning and afternoon shows but they did not propel the film to a higher level which was needed as the start was low. Again, this film will be another test for the box office as it’s a Saturday film but post the pandemic these types have found it tough going.”

Talking about Jersey, it has been directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and is an official Hindi remake of the Telugu film of the same name. It stars Shahid Kapoor in the role of a cricketer who takes the decision to return to the field at the age of 40 in order to earn his son's respect and love. The movie also stars Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapur in pivotal roles.
