Producer PL Thenappan has expressed solidarity with Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan in the ongoing controversy over Uttama Villain. During an event for the latest movie PT Sir, Thenappan recalled that he was the secretary of the producer's council when the issue over the film first broke out almost a decade ago.

Thenappan claimed that Kamal was not in the wrong in the matter. He confirmed that Kamal had indeed agreed to do a movie for director Lingusamy's production banner, Thirrupathi Brothers, to compensate for the loss incurred by the latter from Uttama Villain.

"But the fund that was required to release Uttama Villain was provided by Eros. And Gnanavel Raja repaid Eros, not Thirrupathi Brothers. Because of that, they fully surrendered the rights to Kamal sir's letter to Gnanavel Raja. Hence, as far as I know, Thirrupathi Brothers has no rights in this matter," he claimed.

He also revealed that Gnanavel Raja has no issues with Kamal and will also speak in favour of the latter. Thenappan, who has collaborated with Kamal on several movies, vouched for Kamal's honesty and integrity in the matter.

For those unaware, Lingusamy has accused Kamal of failing to honour his promise to make a movie for his production banner to make up for the financial setback he suffered from producing Uttama Villain.

Lingusamy claimed that according to the initial agreement, Kamal was supposed to make an action movie. However, Kamal later changed his mind and convinced Lingusamy to bankroll Uttama Villain. When the movie opened in cinemas, it garnered positive reviews but tanked at the box office.

Lingusamy alleged that the commercial failure of Uttama Villain derailed the growth of his production house.
