    Ayushmann Khurrana and Kareena Kapoor Khan will be marking their first on-screen collaboration with director Meghna Gulzar’s next, Daayra. According to reports, the hard-hitting story of Daayra is based on the 2019 Hyderabad rape and murder case.

    According to reports, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan and actor Ayushmann Khurrana are in the final stages of discussion with Meghna Gulzar for her next directorial venture, a hard-hitting drama film titled Daayra.

    Daayra plotline

    According to a report by Pinkvilla, Daayra will be based on the 2019 Hyderabad rape and murder case, in which four men accused of raping a 26-year-old veterinary doctor in Shamshabad. The accused were caught and jailed. A twist was added to the murder investigation when the four men were shot dead by the Hyderabad Police at a construction site.

    “Meghna has done all her research on the subject through the last few years and had a strong source material on place for her screenplay. She was moved by all that happened. Kareena and Ayushmann resonated with the emotions and are looking forward to team up on this special project,” a source revealed.

    Meghna Gulzar’s films

    Meghna’s last four directorials have been based on real-life stories. Her last directorial venture was the 2023 released film Sam Bahadur starring Vicky Kaushal, Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh. It is based on the real-life story of Sam Manekshaw, the first field marshal.  Meghna's 2018 blockbuster hit film, Raazi, starring Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal and Jaideep Ahlawat, tells the story of a young Kashmiri woman who becomes a spy and moves to Pakistan after marrying a Pakistani army officer. Later, Meghna worked with Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey in Chhapaak which showcased the life of Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor. Talvar, released in 2015, is based on the infamous Arushi murder case.

    Meanwhile, Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming project, Daayra, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana, will be produced by Junglee Pictures.
