Lily-Rose Depp's Take on Depp-Heard Defamation Case: 'I'm Entitled to My Secret Garden of Thoughts'

In a revealing conversation with Elle magazine, actress Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of Johnny Depp, candidly spoke about her father's widely scrutinized defamation case against his former wife Amber Heard. Throughout the legal tussle, Lily-Rose refrained from public comment, choosing instead to concentrate on developing her acting career and personal growth.

The highly publicized defamation lawsuit involving Johnny Depp and Amber Heard became a media sensation earlier this year. The case stemmed from accusations of domestic violence by Heard, articulated in a 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post. Contrarily, the court sided with Depp, ruling that Heard was guilty of defamation and awarding him $10 million in damages. Following this vindication, Depp released a heartfelt statement on Instagram, expressing his relief and the feeling of reclaiming his life.

Lily-Rose, on the cover of Elle, broke her silence about her conscious choice to maintain privacy amidst her father's legal battle. "When something so personal suddenly becomes less personal… I feel entirely entitled to my secret garden of thoughts," she stated. Further, she conveyed her ambition to be acknowledged for her professional achievements, separate from her family ties or personal relationships.

Reflecting on her unconventional upbringing, she recognized its distinctiveness while also highlighting the concerted efforts by her parents, Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, to protect her privacy.

In the course of the conversation, she also addressed the term "nepo baby," disapproving of its usage, especially when targeted at women. She drew parallels with children of doctors choosing the same career path, asserting, "No, I went to medical school and trained."

While Johnny Depp is back in the director's chair and has released a music album, Lily-Rose is making significant strides in her career path. She's slated to star in HBO's upcoming series 'The Idol,' alongside The Weeknd, and has also been cast in a remake of the German horror film 'Nosferatu.'
