Matka is inspired by the life of 1980s gambling King Ratan Khetri

The Varun Tej-starrer Matka, directed by Karun Kumar, is inspired by real-life events! Yes, you read that right. According to earlier Telugu reports, the film is based on the real-life betting pioneer Ratan Khetri. Khetri was known for turning 'Matka' (a type of gambling that emerged in Mumbai in 1962) into India's most popular betting game and developing a nationwide gambling network that lasted decades under his control. According to reports, Varun Tej will be portraying the gambling king, with the story fictionalized for commercial appeal.
