Shahid Kapoor ’s Jersey is still a week away from release but the early reactions to the project are having us believe that the actor has hit this one out of the park with his performance. Jersey arrived nearly three years after the record-breaking success of Kabir Singh and is also on the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of the character Shahid plays.

Having seen the film with his wife already, Shahid shared what Mira Rajput’s reaction was like to his performance. The actor who banks on Mira for honest reactions to his work, revealed how she was moved to tears after watching Jersey. The actor also revealed how Mira usually asks him not to dwell too much on the success of a film if she didn’t think it was great after watching.

Talking to Mid-Day about her emotional reaction to the film Shahid said, “When she saw Jersey, she hugged me and cried for 15 minutes. I think she was overwhelmed because I was playing a father in the film. To me, Jersey is the story of every married [person] in this country — all of us have dreams in our 20s. When you go on to have responsibilities and children, you sometimes give up on your passion and do the practical thing. After watching the film, Mira understood a lot about me as a person; she could understand my struggles. She connected with the film deeply.”

Shahid also contrasted this reaction of Mira’s to Jersey to the one he received for his fil Udta Punjab . Married for almost a year at the time, the actor said that by the interval Mira put a six feet distance between them scared of him and asked him he is like Tommy in real-life. He played a drug-addict rockstar in the movie.
