Neetu Kapoor may have worked extra hard to keep Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt ’s intimate wedding plans a secret during her regular spotting by the paparazzi in the beginning of April, but now the actress has opened up about how the whole event was planned in a hush hush manner. Neetu has shared in an interview how the family was box up at home and refrained from running any of the wedding errands themselves in order to maintain the wedding a secret.

Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor tied the knot at their residence Vaastu on April 14 in a ceremony which had just 40 guests while the ritual took place on the terrace. Neetu told Film Companion in an interview how the whole thing was planned to be an intimate affair and the family even refrained from stepping out for Ranbir’s baraat.

Talking about her surprise for the bride and groom, Neetu said, “The whole thing was like a dream. The way it was all done, it was beautiful. There were like 40 relatives for the wedding and there were 40 friends for the party. And at the mehendi there were 20 people from our aide and her 6-7 friends, and that’s it. Then we did a surprise dance for them. So there was Bebo, Lolo, Rima, Tashu, Riddhima, Samara and we had prepared for it in one day.”

Talking how went tried and failed at keeping her performance a secret from Ranbir, Neetu further told host Anupama Chopra, “I wanted to give Ranbir also a surprise, we didn’t want to tell him. So he was face timing me asking ‘What’s going on?’ so Masterji was sitting then and we were rehearsing and I didn’t want to show him. So I was telling Masterji ‘go that way, go that way, don’t come, don’t’ come.’ And Ranbir is very sharp, he’s no fool. There was a mirror behind me and he saw Masterji’s reflection there. He also pretended Masterji is not there. So on the mehendi day he told me, ‘I knew Masterji was there, I knew you were going to do a song’. I said, ‘How?’ he said, ‘I saw him in the reflection.’ So kept it and didn’t spoil our excitement. “

Spilling the beans about Ranbir’s baraat Neetu said that the family went dancing from the fifth floor of Vaastu to the seventh floor where the ceremony was to take place. “The best part was the baraat, it went from the fifth floor to the seventh floor. In the passage we did bhangra and what not, we were going crazy. I wanted to have a ghoodi and all that but I also felt that if there will be ghoodi then the paps will come and it will again become like a crazy thing. So I said forget the ghoodi business just come from the fifth floor to the seventh floor,” she said.

While Rishi Kapoor had plans to host big fat Indian wedding for the couple, Neetu said Ranbir was willing to convince the last actor of planning a small celebration. The two actors and their families had been planning the wedding for over two years but the pandemic and Rishi Kapoor’ demise put everything on hold.

Neetu also revealed how Ranbir and Alia earlier planned to head to South Africa for a destination wedding but ultimately ended up getting married on the terrace of their home.

Sharing their initial plans she said, “There were so many plans made by Ranbir and Alia, ‘We’ll go to South Africa, we’ll do recce and we’ll go there…’ but where did they do it? In their terrace at home. Since two years we were planning, we’ll go here, take pictures and we were going absolutely nuts. But this was the best, it couldn’t have been better. It was so perfect and she looked so beautiful.”
