Not just Brahmāstra, but Alia Bhatt charged lesser fees for Darlings as well; actress reveals why

It has been a special year for Alia Bhatt , on the professional as well as personal front. One of the biggest reasons behind this is the release of her much awaited film Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor. The film won hearts with the heavy VFX work, which was quite expensive. It was so costly that rumors suggested the lead pair had to forsake their salaries! Talking about the same, director Ayan Mukerji had shared that when Alia joined the film in 2014, she wasn’t the star that she is today which is why she was signed for a small amount.

Well, recently when she was invited to Forbes India Tycoons Of Tomorrow, Alia revealed that she charged lesser fees even for Darlings , which marked her debut as a producer. The beauty shared, “What started off as a bit of a mathematical calculation, ended up being a production house. So, when Darlings came to me, I didn’t want to loan the production of the film. So I decided to charge a lesser fee and also that I’ll take the backend of the film. Actually what I realized by that time was that I was way more interested in what happens behind the camera and what it takes to make a movie.”

Alia explained that she has been in the industry for a decade and has had her first film as a producer. She believes that the understanding she gathered during the making of Darlings was extremely substantial. Also starring Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew, the dark comedy received praises from all over the country for the versatile performances as well as the incredible story-line. It was backed by Alia’s Eternal Sunshine Productions along with Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment.
